Civics via Literary Lens

Check out this great article by Laura Tavares: “Looking at Citizenship Through a Literary Lens” from the Citizens in the Making issue of Educational Leadership (Nov 2017). She makes the claim that civic education must be planned across the curriculum and not just left up to social studies teachers. However, it takes a history teacher like you to make this all work. Who else is better trained to do this kind of teaching? We historians are always ready to imagine new ways to support student learning that prepare them for a robust democracy — and that preparation includes:Educational Leadership journal cover for
